Q&A

Nice to meet you

My name is Angel Lesnikowski, a feminist artist with a deep fear of death. I grew up among desert people, raised in what felt like a doomsday dystopia, and as a woman, the world hasn’t been kind to my gender, and that reality fuels my work. Being half Assyrian Iraqi and half white cowboy shapes my perspective and inspires the themes I explore.

I’ve been a working artist for eight years, creating for the sake of art itself. I thrive in art communities and consider it an honor to teach whenever I get the chance. If you ever have questions, just reach out—I’m always happy to chat.

Do you teach?

Yes! I’ve had the honor of working with various programs across California, gaining valuable experience from each. This fall, I’ll be joining Clovis Community College and Porterville College as an adjunct professor. I also offer private lessons in my studio, where I share insights on both the creative and professional aspects of being an artist.

Where is all of your artwork archived?

A lot of my work is experimental, purely for study. So not everything is publicly archived. You’ll find experimental works listed on my social media. For any specific questions about my work feel free to contact me.

What is ArtHop?

“ArtHop takes place during the 1st of the month from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM PST and features FREE entry to exhibitions, gallery shows, special performances, and unique art experiences for art lovers of all ages.” -Fresno Arts Council

I’ve been a participate of ArtHop since 2018 at Broadway Studios. It’s my mini gallery located at 1416 Broadway St, Fresno, California 93721. I’ll post on social media when that studio is open. If I’m not there I got roped into a different lovely gallery in the area. It’s the best way to see my work in person. Turn on my notifications on Instagram to be in the know:

What is the Anthropocene?

“The Anthropocene defines Earth's most recent geologic time period as being human-influenced, or anthropogenic, based on overwhelming global evidence that atmospheric, geologic, hydrologic, biospheric and other earth system processes are now altered by humans.” - anthropocene.info

Anthropocene artwork is made to create an opportunity for discussion. As I create my work, I think about every detail of the process and what I am doing as an individual to impact the planet. Anthropocene artists use artwork to refer to human impact on the planet on a geological level and to the anthropocentric mindset that is responsible for far-reaching catastrophic effects.
