These functional urns were created while reflecting on mortality and the inevitability of my own death. Made to hold cremated remains, each vessel carries the quiet contemplation of grief and of who may be contained within the body. Each urn, in a way, is a self-portrait because I put my experiences and perspectives into the symbolism of the design. There are subtle references to who I am as a person and what I’ve been through to shape my human condition, but while going through the process, I was always thinking of others, practicing the empathic nature that we as humans have toward one another. With that being said, I hope the viewer can find themselves or someone they love in these vessels.
